🧐 Market Enigma: We found these strange figures in a Chinese market. You’ll be surprised when you find out what they are.
During a recent trip to China with a friend, we decided to explore one of the local street markets: full of life, color, and fascinating things that were impossible to look away from.
Among piles of traditional souvenirs, ceramics, amulets, and kitchen utensils, our eyes suddenly stopped on some strange, almost surreal figures. 😵
🤔 They looked like small creatures—something between animals and fantastical characters—elongated in the middle, with holes and undefined faces.

At first, we thought they were some kind of decoration, or perhaps traditional toys. We turned them over in our hands, joking that they were „Asian enigmas” or maybe finger trainers.
But curiosity got the better of us, and we asked the vendor what they really were. Their answer left us speechless… 😲

It turned out they were… chopstick rests! Yes, those curious objects had a practical function. When the chopsticks are new and wrapped, they’re placed in the lengthwise hole.
And when they’re used, to avoid leaving them directly on the table, they’re inserted into the side hole. That way they don’t touch the surface and stay clean.

A simple idea, but executed with such elegance and creativity. We liked it so much that we bought several as souvenirs.
I still have one at home—a reminder of that day when an ordinary market became a moment of discovery.
Who would have imagined that something so small could evoke so many emotions?
