“What the hell have you brought into this world?!” Antal screamed when he saw the girl’s face, and simply threw his wife out of the house.

The village slowly sank into the evening twilight.

The wind slipped between the rickety fences and silently crept into the cracks of the old houses, as if whispering unknown secrets.

Here and there, candles flickered in the windows: the inhabitants were preparing for the night.

But in one house, that evening, no one intended to sleep. A quarrel had broken out, destined to change the fate of a family forever.

„You gave birth to this to me?” Antal’s furious cry pierced the silence of the night, and the neighbors’ dog began to bark.

Vera held her little baby girl, wrapped in a blanket, in her trembling hands. The baby slept peacefully, her fingers moving slightly. It was her joy.

Her very blood. Yet her husband—her very husband—looked at the child with horror and disgust.

„She doesn’t even look like me!” – he panted, pacing nervously around the room like a trapped animal. – You cheated on me, right? With whom, Vera?! Tell me the truth!

Vera’s heart was beating faster, not out of fear, but out of pain.

– Are you crazy?! – she whispered. – She’s our daughter, Antal. OUR DAUGHTER!

But he wasn’t listening. Or maybe he just didn’t want to.

Antal’s eyes burned with anger. Vera knew her husband had always been impulsive, but now… it seemed like a stranger was standing before her.

He couldn’t see her, he couldn’t hear her—he just stared at the little girl’s face. Those big, round eyes. The little mole on her cheek. His mind refused to accept it.

– Pack your bags. Get out. NOW!

He didn’t even give her time to react. He threw her things into her arms, threw open the door, and pushed her out.

Vera couldn’t say anything. The icy wind hit her face. The little girl jumped slightly in her arms, but didn’t wake up.

—Antal… are you really kicking us out? In the middle of the night, in this cold?!

—I don’t care! GET OUT!

The neighbors saw the woman with the little girl in her arms disappear into the darkness. The vision of her frail figure walking away through the icy wind remained etched in their memory.

But no one said a word, no one asked if she needed help. The village had a rule: don’t meddle in other people’s business.

And yet that night… something changed.

Six months passed.

The winter was harsh. In the icy streets of the village, people whispered about the missing woman and the little girl.

Antal didn’t say a word. But in the cold evenings, he still felt the weight of guilt he didn’t want to admit.

Until one day, a stranger arrived in the village. Tall, elegant, wearing a black coat. He was looking for Antal.

„What do you want from me?” Antal asked suspiciously.

The man looked him straight in the eye and said in a low voice:

„You have no idea WHO you kicked out of your home…”

The wind picked up. Antal’s chest tightened with anxiety.

„Who are you? What are you talking about?!”

The stranger pulled out an old, yellowed photo. It featured an elderly woman—and a newborn baby with eyes identical to those of Antal’s daughter.

„Your grandmother’s sister had a special child. A carrier of a rare gene, passed down from generation to generation. There are very few people like that in the world. And now your daughter belongs to them too.”

Antal was speechless.

The man continued:

„Vera knew everything. But you rejected her. Now it’s too late.”

Antal’s chest tightened even more. The world around him began to spin. He remembered the little girl’s mole. Those big, strange eyes.

„Where is she now?” he asked softly.

„Where people like her are respected and protected. And you’ll never see her again.”

The wind blew again, and in the stranger’s eyes Antal saw the future he had lost.

Only then did he understand that he had lost not only his wife and daughter, but also the man he could have been.
