I was sure my son would bring his new girlfriend on our family trip, until I accidentally saw a text on his phone.

The family vacation I had longed for, hoping to strengthen our bond, turned into a huge betrayal that changed my life forever.

What was supposed to be a wonderful and idyllic experience

turned out to be one of my worst nightmares. I always believed that family vacations could bring us closer, but this time everything fell apart.

As a working mother, I have always tried to find a balance between work and family.

My life has always been hectic, but I have never allowed my family to be neglected. Even though I often came home late, I always made sure they were well taken care of.

My husband, Mark, had been unemployed since losing his job. He occasionally found odd jobs to help out, but the main burden of financial responsibilities always fell on me.

In recent months, this burden had become unbearable, and I felt our relationship was about to collapse.

But I thought our next vacation would fix everything. I hoped we’d reconnect and create new memories together.

Every year we kept this tradition, and despite the financial difficulties, we always managed to carve out a few days together.

This year, I wanted it to be a special vacation, because I felt that Mark, due to unemployment, urgently needed a break.

„We need it,” I told him after a particularly hard day at work.

„Just the three of us, a few days to ourselves.” At first, he was hesitant, unsure if we could afford it, but eventually he agreed.

Our son Eric, who is 20 and in college, has never been particularly enthusiastic about family activities, but I was surprised by his enthusiasm for the vacation.

„I can’t wait to spend time with you!” he said over the phone, and my heart filled with joy.

A few days later, however, Eric called to ask if he could bring his girlfriend, Jessica.

Jessica? I was surprised—our vacations had always been just the three of us—but her happiness was contagious, so I finally agreed.

When I met Jessica at the airport, I was struck by how beautiful and stylish she was.

She immediately caught Mark’s attention, and he was very kind to her. I tried not to think too much about it: after all, she was our son’s girlfriend.

But as the days passed, strange things began to happen. Jessica, who Eric had been with for three months, knew nothing about his passion for basketball—a passion Eric had cultivated for years!

She couldn’t even remember her major. „Biology,” Eric said. But she had no idea! She seemed completely uninterested in Eric’s life.

It all began to seem very suspicious.

Why would Eric bring along someone who knew so little about him? And why did Jessica show no interest in getting to know her supposed boyfriend better?

The strangest thing, however, happened one evening when I was searching for sunscreen in Eric’s bag and found a luxurious velvet box.

Inside was a beautiful diamond pendant. What was such an expensive piece of jewelry doing in Eric’s bag? How could he afford it?

The next evening, I asked him lightly, „Eric, I found the pendant in your bag. It’s beautiful; I’m sure Jessica will love it.”

But he looked at me with wide eyes, as if I’d said something wrong. „Yes, I saved on it. I really like it and was thinking about giving it to her. She deserves it,” he stammered.

But inside, I felt something wasn’t right. How could he afford such a gift on his limited budget?

Then it occurred to me: Mark had given him the money. Over the next few days, everything became clearer and clearer.

The real shock came one morning, when I read a text on Eric’s phone. “$500 more for our deal. Thanks for helping me with the pendant,” it said. The sender? Mark.

I felt sick when it all hit me. Mark and Eric had conspired together, and Jessica wasn’t Eric’s girlfriend: she was Mark’s lover.

Eric had pretended to be her boyfriend so Mark could take her on vacation without arousing suspicion.

The “deal” between them was that Mark would give Eric money in exchange for his silence. And that pendant? It had been bought with my money!

That night, over dinner, I confronted them all. I was wearing the pendant and said, “I paid for everything!

The vacation, the pendant, even the money Mark gave Eric to participate in this charade!”

Mark’s face paled. “What are you talking about?” he stammered.

“Stop pretending, Mark,” I said, rolling my eyes. Then I turned to Jessica: “I don’t know what Mark told you, but he’s unemployed.

He was laid off years ago and hasn’t been able to find a real job since.”

“But I—” “Shut up!” I interrupted her. “Let me talk. I’ve paid for everything since he p

For work.

Everything—the vacation, the pendant, and even the money he promised Eric to participate in this charade!”

Eric tried to apologize, but I couldn’t listen anymore. “I never thought my son would do something like this,” I said as tears streamed down my face.

“I had no idea you were paying my son to lie to me.”

Those were the last words I spoke to them. I got up and went back to my room.

The next day, I flew home alone. Mark and Eric tried to contact me, but I declined every call.

A week later, I filed for divorce. Jessica disappeared as soon as she realized Mark had no money, leaving him alone and humiliated.

As for Eric, we are trying to rebuild our relationship. He made a grave mistake, but he is still my son.

I hope he has learned his lesson and understands how unacceptable what Mark did is. And above all, I hope he never repeats his father’s mistakes.
