Hope Fades with a Broken Heart: Missing Young Man’s Body Found
The anguished and hopeful search came to a tragic end: on May 11, the lifeless body of the 17-year-old boy, missing since May 3, was found in the waters of the Tisza River, near Tiszadada.
That night, the young man had left by car for the outskirts of Taktakenéz, but all trace of him was lost. He was last seen near the banks of Prugy, in a densely wooded area of the Tisza floodplain. He was wearing a red T-shirt and black shorts.
From the first day, anxiety mounted, as there was no sign of his whereabouts. The search began immediately, but sadly, the worst fears were confirmed.
A community united in a tireless search
The young man had agreed to meet a friend to return home, but he never arrived. Following her disappearance, an unprecedented wave of solidarity erupted. Residents of Taktabáj, along with the local police and Mayor János Rézműves, coordinated the initial search efforts.
Other teams soon joined:
Neptun Diving Club and the rescue team, with ten people, dogs, quads, and motorcycles;
Dogs for Life Foundation, with volunteers and specialized dogs;
In addition to the police and civil protection.
For days, they tirelessly scoured the forested and flooded areas along the Tisza, with no apparent success.
A sign amidst the uncertainty
On May 9, a glimmer of hope was lit. The ECHO search and rescue team joined the effort. Their sniffer dog, Faith, detected a scent at the entrance to the main Prügy channel, near the river. Thanks to the support of MOHOSZ fisheries guards, a boat was provided to continue the search from the water.
Faith marked a specific spot, confirmed by sonar: a body could be found at a depth of about 3 to 3.5 meters. Although rescuers attempted to recover it, the current dragged it downriver.
The Final Discovery: May 11
Two days later, on May 11, Faith marked another spot, this time near Tiszadada, about 4 or 5 kilometers from the initial signal. There, the body was found and identified as that of the missing young man.
A story of pain, but also of solidarity
This case not only exposes a human tragedy, but also the incredible strength and solidarity of an entire community. Despite everything, they never lost hope.
The police continue to investigate the circumstances of the death. So far, no evidence of foul play has been found, but the official report is awaited.
