In November 2016, a mother welcomed her second daughter, Paloma Michaela Giles, whom she affectionately calls Pippa.
Shortly after birth, Pippa was diagnosed with Down syndrome.

„I didn’t know what her abilities would be,” the mother confessed, recalling those early days.
At first, she felt overwhelmed by the unknown, but she soon realized how little she knew about what Down syndrome truly meant.
„Looking back, I’m surprised by everything I didn’t know then,” she admitted.

„There’s this misconception that people with Down syndrome are always happy,” she explained.
But Pippa proved that her emotions were just as complex and authentic as any other child’s: she radiated joy when she was happy, and she also expressed sadness or frustration when she needed to.
Physical differences—such as lower muscle tone and slower motor development—meant that her expressive speech took longer to develop, although she always understood language perfectly.
„People underestimate her because she doesn’t respond as quickly as they expect,” her mother remarked.
Determined to change those perceptions, she became a passionate advocate for inclusion, encouraging other families to seek out and create supportive communities.
“When you find that connection, you discover an inner joy that completely transforms your life,” she shared.
